60 BWH Physicians Were Named as Top Doctors in 22 Specialties
With 60 doctors named to Boston Magazine’s list of Top Doctors in the City, BWH comprised 35 percent of the entire list. BWH doctors were named in 22 out of 23 fields of medicine and were prominently ranked in Autoimmune Disease, Infertility, Orthopedics, Rheumatology and Sports Medicine.
The list, which included a total of 170 doctors, was compiled based on feedback from hundreds of doctors and members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, who were asked, “To whom would you send a loved one who was sick?” Based on participant responses, Boston Magazine drafted their list and then consulted the Board of Registration of Medicine.
In addition to the listing of Top Doctors, Boston Magazine’s “City of Hope” article profiled five specialists who are “not simply making breakthroughs in curing diseases, but leading the race.” Dennis Selkoe, MD, co-director of BWH’s Center for Neurologic Diseases, appeared on the cover of the magazine along with a story about his hunt to pinpoint the cause of Alzheimer’s Disease. Inside, Paul Ridker, MD, of BWH’s Division of Cardiology, was featured in an article that highlighted his research in the area of C-reactive proteins and their link to heart disease. Selkoe, Ridker and hundreds of other physicians and researchers have given people all across the country good reason to believe the prospect of finding a cure for many of the deadliest diseases is closer.
If a cure is found, they need look no further than the “City of Hope.” Ranking first among all cities in national research funding, Boston’s medical community is a good place to start looking.
